The study of colour dates back centuries, with several key figures contributing significantly to the understanding of colour perception.

  • Isaac Newton: In his work Opticks (1704), Newton explored the properties of light and introduced the colour wheel, which organizes the spectrum of visible colours.
  • Johann Heinrich Lambert: Lambert developed the concept of a 3-dimensional colour space, visualizing colours within a pyramid structure.
  • Albert H. Munsell: He developed the Munsell colour system, which arranges colours in a colour tree, still widely used today.
